Introduction to Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament by which a person is initiated into the Christian church. It has the effect of receiving people into the household of God, allowing them to receive the grace of the other sacraments.

So, who do we baptise?

We baptise infants, children and adults of any age. However, adults (from 16 upwards) are baptised by a bishop, and usually then confirmed (adult commitment) by the bishop at the same service.

Those who have never been baptised, or wish to have their children baptised, are encouraged to become members of our parish community, before, during or after the baptism. Because of this, our baptisms are held during our Sunday worship service at 9.00am where they are welcomed into the church community.

As baptism is a sacrament of the church, this is taken very seriously and the baptised become members of the Anglican community in the Anglican Church of Australia, Diocese of Perth.

Baptism is an ancient and long-held rite of the church.

As a requirement, at least one parent and one Godparent must have already been baptised.
