Child Baptism
Children of reading age and under 10, will receive teaching about baptism, the church and about faith in weekly meetings with the Parish Priest in the 6 weeks before the baptism, through a work book. We encourage parents to have their children Welcomed to Communion at the same time, so they can partake of the bread (and wine if agreed to), at Holy Communion Services. The weekly meetings are held in the family home of the child, or in the church with a parent being present.
If the child is between 10 and 15 years of age, we encourage it to be their choice to be baptised and supported by their parents and family, they will need to attend church as much as possible (preferably weekly and need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult over 18 years of age. We are happy to sit with the young person and to talk through the process with them in the presence of a parent or guardian. Once it is established that the young person wishes to go ahead and the parents are happy to go ahead, then we can begin to journey together through what it means to be baptised, why, and what will happen. We will also encourage the young person to be Welcomed to Communion at the same time and then begin exploring Confirmation when they are ready and over 15 and 6 months of age.
